Lee Greens Turns 2!

This month Lee Greens celebrates its 2nd birthday!  We started back in May 2015 with the help of a loan from Growing Communities, they've mentored us through the process with their 20 years of experience delivering sustainable, seasonal veg in Hackney for over 20 years.

In our first week we packed just 18 bags and we are now consistently packing over 100 bags each week, delivering to 6 pick up locations around our borough of Lewisham.

As the scheme has developed we have created a couple of part-time jobs and are also supported by a group of fantastic volunteers who help with activities ranging from packing to marketing and social media.

We continue to support 3 local farms and many others around the country, by buying at price that enables them to make a living and keep their farms open. This is a great achievement in just 2 years!

Our ethos is to pay a fair price for sustainable, seasonal veg; in order to  build a food system that is better for the farmers, better for local people and to protect the environment. We are now one of twelve veg schemes, part of the Better Food Traders network www.betterfoodtraders.org, with shared ethics and aims.

In the near future we hope to grow our number of pick up points around the borough, create more jobs and have also discussed the idea of adding fruit to the scheme.  Longer term we aim to support the farmers more and give back to the community!

We thank all our community members for supporting Lee Greens.
